Open Box

The open box is Craft Ready Cuts's foundational template. It generates a five-panel box with an open top, connected by finger joints on all edges. You set the dimensions, pick your material, and Craft Ready Cuts produces a flat SVG layout ready to cut on any laser cutter.

How it works

1. Set width, depth, and height in millimeters
2. Choose your material and stock size
3. Craft Ready Cuts generates all five panels with finger joints automatically sized and spaced
4. Preview the flat layout in 2D or the assembled box in 3D
5. Download the SVG and send it to your laser cutter

What you get

The exported SVG contains a base panel and four wall panels, laid out to fit your chosen stock size. Finger joints are generated deterministically based on your dimensions and material thickness. Kerf compensation is applied at export time so the joints fit snugly in the real cut.

Tips

• Inside vs. outside dimensions: Toggle between inside and outside measurement modes. Inside mode means the interior cavity matches your numbers. Outside mode means the outer shell does.
• Material thickness matters: Finger joint sizing depends on your material thickness. A 3mm plywood box will have different joint proportions than a 6mm acrylic box.
• Check the 3D preview: Before exporting, switch to 3D view to verify the box looks right assembled. The exploded view shows how each panel fits together.
